MiniMax H3 prompts for perfume and beauty video

Fragrance and skincare ads keep the product still and move everything around it: petals, mist, a drop of oil, the shadow of a leaf. That is the brief we gave MiniMax H3 in four image-to-video prompts, one per shot type. Most of each prompt is about light, glass and liquid rather than the bottle, because that is where beauty clips succeed or fail.

Each clip ran 6 seconds at 768P, the drafting resolution for H3, from a still product photo. The VELA bottles and jars are invented and the hand is AI-generated. Three of the four clips took more than one attempt. For two of them the only problem was our start-frame links failing before anything was generated; the spray took three tries because the first real one sent the mist up out of the cap like smoke.

Tested 2026-10-19 via the Novita AI API (MiniMax-H3, image-to-video from a first frame), the provider Blurbly uses for MiniMax H3. VELA and its products are invented. We stripped the audio track the clips came with; nothing else was changed apart from compression.

Why it works

  • “Drift down … a few land softly … one slides off the edge” gives the petals three different behaviours, so the fall does not look like a looping particle effect.
  • The sentence that keeps the bottle still separated the moving elements from the product. The bottle, cap and engraving did not move or redraw.
  • “Light glints and moves through the pale pink liquid” adds a second, subtle motion inside the product, which keeps a static bottle from looking like a pasted still.

Why it works

  • “A fine horizontal jet … from the side of the nozzle” fixed the physics. Without it, H3 sent the mist straight up out of the top of the cap like smoke.
  • “Presses the nozzle down twice” produced two distinct sprays, which reads as a real application rather than a cloud that is simply there.
  • A dark background plus a backlight is the only way fine mist shows on video; front light makes it invisible.

Why it works

  • “Swells and falls” describes how a viscous drop actually behaves. The drop stretches before it lets go, which is what makes it read as oil and not water.
  • “A second drop forms and falls” fills 6 seconds with a repeatable rhythm and gives you a natural loop point.
  • “Keep exactly the same shape and position” held the bottle and the pipette completely still, so all attention is on the drop.

Swap for your product

  • Texture: “golden drop … oil” → “clear gel drop … holds its dome”, “milky essence drop … spreads quickly”.
  • Surface: “wet acrylic” → “the back of an adult’s hand”, “a glass slide over a mirror” for a cleaner reflection.
  • Count: one drop for a 4–5 s clip, two for 6–8 s. More drops tend to fall faster.

The palm-leaf shadows sway gently across the jar, the lid and the stone as if the leaves are moving in a light breeze outside the frame. The warm afternoon sunlight shifts slightly. The camera slowly arcs a few degrees to the right. The jar and wooden lid stay perfectly still and keep the same shape.

Why it works

  • “As if the leaves are moving in a light breeze outside the frame” explains where the motion comes from, so H3 moved only the shadows and did not add leaves to the shot.
  • The shadows wrap correctly over the round jar and the rough stone, which is the detail that makes this look photographed rather than composited.
  • A still jar with moving light is the easiest beauty clip to loop on a product page: the first and last frames are almost identical.

Swap for your product

  • Light source: “palm-leaf shadows” → “sunlight through a linen curtain”, “water caustics rippling across the jar” for a fresh, aquatic feel.
  • Product: “jar and wooden lid” → your packaging; keep tubes and bottles upright, not lying flat, so the shadow reads.
  • For more visible movement, drop “a few degrees” and ask for “a slow 15-degree arc”; ours barely moved.

What went wrong in testing

Three of our first four requests failed with error 2013, “media url unreachable”, before generating anything. The start frames were on our own CDN; one request got through.
We resent the same images from plain object storage (an S3 link) and all three ran. Host start frames on fast, publicly reachable storage, or upload them to the provider first.
The first spray attempt sent the mist straight up out of the top of the cap, like smoke from a chimney. Real atomizers spray sideways.
Describe the mechanism, not the look: “the spray opening faces right … a fine horizontal jet … from the side of the nozzle”. The next attempt sprayed horizontally.
We asked for the jet to go to the right and it went to the left. The physics instruction worked; the screen direction did not.
Do not rely on left/right in the prompt. If direction matters, flip the start frame or mirror the finished clip before publishing.
Petals fell in front of the bottle and hid the VELA name for a few frames mid-clip.
Fine for a mood shot. If the brand name must stay readable, say where the petals fall: behind and beside the bottle, never in front of the label.
Output did not match the request exactly: 6-second requests came back at 6.58 seconds, a 9:16 start frame came back at 768×1344 (4:7), and every clip carried an audio track.
Trim to length, crop or pad to the placement’s exact ratio, and strip or replace the audio before uploading. The clips on this page are shown without it.

When to use another model

Kling 3.0

When a hand or a model has to handle the product closely, such as applying cream or twisting a lipstick, and finger accuracy matters more than glossy liquid.

Seedance 2.5

When you need one longer take (up to 30 seconds) that goes from texture close-up to the product on a shelf, or want to combine several reference images.

Frequently asked questions

Is MiniMax H3 the same as Hailuo?

MiniMax makes the Hailuo video models. H3 is its newest video model; you call it as MiniMax-H3 through the API, and it is the version available on Blurbly.

Can MiniMax H3 keep the text on my perfume bottle?

In our test a short engraved name (VELA) stayed sharp for the whole clip because the bottle did not move. Petals passing in front hid it briefly. Longer label copy and small print were not tested here; keep the product still and check every frame before publishing.

768P or 2K for beauty videos?

Draft at 768P, as we did, to approve the motion. MiniMax’s documentation describes a regeneration task that turns an approved 768P H3 video into a 2K version, which is the cheaper route than generating every draft at 2K.

How long does a MiniMax H3 clip take?

Our 6-second 768P clips took about 3 to 4 minutes each (173 to 243 seconds) through the API.

Why does my perfume mist look like smoke?

Because the prompt describes the look (“mist”) but not the mechanism. Tell H3 where the spray opening faces and that each press sends a horizontal jet from the side of the nozzle. Use a dark background and a backlight so the mist is visible at all.
