What we measured for men's underwear

In our October 2026 test of 3 products and 6 images, GPT Image 2 made all 3 packshots and flat-lays and declined all 3 on-body shots with a safety message. Nano Banana 2, the second model in Blurbly’s chain, made those 3, so the run finished 6 of 6.

The decline was about skin on screen, not the product. A model in trunks with a t-shirt was declined just like the one with an open shirt. Expect on-model shots to take the slower second attempt.

The fictional brand name on the waistband stayed readable on the packshots and on most on-model shots. Check the lettering on yours before you publish.

Running ads for men's underwear on Meta and TikTok in 2026

Meta treats undergarments like lingerie and swimwear. TikTok’s adult-content policy is stricter about what the creative shows.

  • Meta: lingerie, swimwear and undergarments are exempt from the 18+ targeting rule for health and wellness ads, as long as they do not violate the Adult Nudity and Sexual Activity policy. Meta health and wellness policy
  • TikTok: clothing that exposes or implies exposure of intimate areas, emphasis on sensitive body parts and sexualized body positions are listed as not allowed. TikTok adult content policy
  • For ads, lead with packshots and flat-lays; if a model appears, keep the frame wide and the pose plain.

Most of the listing doesn’t need a body

On a typical underwear listing the model shot is one image out of several. The rest are product: the multipack fanned out, a single pair flat on white, the waistband, the fabric, the pouch seam, the size label. Those are the images that tell a buyer whether this three-pack matches the ones already in their drawer.

They are also the shots that went through first time in our test, while every on-body shot needed the second model. If you’re building a new listing, get the product images done and live, then add the model shots.

The waistband carries the brand

For most underwear brands the logo lives on the waistband, so that’s the detail to protect. Lay a pair flat with the waistband straight and the lettering facing the camera, and photograph it in even light. In our test the fictional brand name stayed readable on the packshots and on most of the model shots. Most isn’t all, so read the lettering on every image, especially where the band curves around a hip.

Dark colours need their own care. Black, charcoal and navy can merge into one dark shape on a dark backdrop, and a three-pack that reads as three black pairs when one is navy is a listing error. Use a light surface for dark multipacks and name each colour in the prompt.

What the declined shots showed

The useful detail in our test is which shots were declined. Putting the model in a t-shirt didn’t help, so the trigger seems to be how much skin is in frame rather than anything about the product. That rules out the obvious workaround of dressing the model in more clothes to get past the first model.

Plan around it. Expect model shots to take longer, keep them catalog-style and framed full-length or from the knee up, and don’t ask for close-up crotch shots, which Blurbly doesn’t make. Wider framing also shows the leg length and the rise of the waistband, which is what a buyer wants from a model shot in the first place.

Fabric and fit are told in close-ups

Underwear is bought on feel, and feel has to be shown. A close-up of the fabric with the knit visible tells a buyer whether it is soft cotton, slick microfibre or ribbed modal. Shoot that close-up yourself in low side light, or build the detail shot from a sharp photo; working from a soft photo, a generator will invent a texture.

Fit is harder. A generated model shows a generic fit, so details such as a contoured pouch, a leg that doesn’t ride up or a flat front seam are better explained with a labelled flat-lay and a sentence of copy than left to a model shot. The short clip on this page was made from the folded three-pack, not a model shot, so it can run anywhere the packshots can.

Building a three-pack listing

Say you sell a three-pack of cotton boxer briefs in black, grey and navy. Photograph the pack fanned out on a light surface and one pair laid flat. From those, generate the white-background main image, a folded stack, a waistband close-up and a flat-lay with a t-shirt and socks for a getting-dressed feel. Then make two model shots: one in the boxer briefs with a t-shirt, one in trunks, both standing in a plain studio.

Check the count before anything else. A generated three-pack should show three pairs, in the right three colours, in the order they sit in the box. Then the waistband, then the leg length, because boxer briefs that come back as trunks are a different product. If you sell the same style as single pairs and as multipacks, generate each listing from a photo of that pack; a three-pack image on a single-pair listing misleads the buyer about what arrives.

Can Blurbly put my underwear on a male model?

Yes, in catalog style on adult male models. Nude, sexualised or close-up crotch shots are not supported.

Why did my on-model shot take longer?

In our test the first model declined every on-body underwear shot, including one with a t-shirt on, and a second model made them. That second attempt adds time.

Do the images keep my waistband logo?

Usually on packshots. On-model shots can redraw small lettering, especially where the waistband curves, so compare with the real product.

How do I stop black and navy looking the same?

Shoot dark multipacks on a light surface and name each colour in the prompt, then check the colours on every result against the real pack.

Will every image generate and every ad be approved?

Blurbly's content policy restricts sexual content, nudity and deepfakes; it does not ban product categories. The image models behind Blurbly can still decline an individual image, and ad platforms apply their own rules to this category, so nothing here promises that a given image will generate or that a given ad will be approved.
