When Pro is worth the higher price

Nano Banana 2 handles most single-product edits. Pro earns its price in three situations: when a shot combines several references and each has to keep its identity (a garment, a model, a location), when a small product has to survive several edits with its details intact, and when you are putting apparel, jewelry or intimates on a model. In our category tests, on-model lingerie and swimwear shots that GPT Image 2 refused went through on Nano Banana. Nudity is still blocked.

The pricing is simple. Pro charges per image, and when we checked the catalog in October 2026 the 2K setting cost the same as 1K, so there was no saving in choosing the smaller file. Use 2K for marketplace galleries, where buyers zoom; our 2K outputs were 2048×2048 at 1:1 and 1856×2304 at 4:5. Pro has no 4K setting, so a 4K file is a Nano Banana 2 job.

Building a jewelry set from one reference

Our tested jewelry set is a useful template for any small product. We generated one white-background ring at 1:1 and 2K, then made the other ring images as edits of it: a macro of the setting, the ring on a hand, and a gift box that combined the ring with an earring and a necklace from two other images. Working from one reference kept the design consistent. Each edit prompt opened with “Image 1 is the product” and a lock list of what had to survive (four prongs, cathedral arches, a plain band) and what must not be added.

Scale has to be written down. The first gift-box attempt drew the pendant about three times too wide and turned the fine chain into a heavy coil, because each reference fills its own frame and the model has no sense of relative size. Sizes in millimetres plus a comparison between pieces (“about the same width as the ring’s head”), “thin as a thread” for the chain and a 9 cm box fixed it on the second try. For the on-hand shot, “the diamond is about as wide as the finger, not larger” stopped the ring growing, which is where generated rings most often go wrong.

Light for the material

Diamonds and gold want opposite light. A small, hard spotlight throws the coloured flashes that make a stone read as a diamond; large soft light, which suits gold, makes the same stone look like glass. Pick the one that matters in each shot rather than asking for both. Our macro used a small hard spotlight from the top left for the stone and soft fill for the metal.

Describe light by its effect rather than by the equipment. Our first macro attempt asked for “a white card on the right to keep the gold bright”, and Pro drew a white card into the corner of the frame. “Fill light bounced from outside the frame, no cards, reflectors or other objects visible” gave a clean second attempt. The same goes for any glossy product: say what the light does to the surface, not what produces it.

On-model shots for apparel and intimates

For necklaces, earrings and tops, cropping the face out keeps attention on the product and saves you matching one model’s face across a whole catalog; our pendant shot is cropped just above the lips. When you do need the same face across a collection, add the model photo as a second reference and say so: “image 2 is the model”.

For lingerie and swimwear, write the prompt as a catalog brief: an adult model, the product named exactly (“black lace balconette bra”), the light and the pose, and “keep the lace pattern and strap shape exactly”. The Marenvale catalog sample on this page, made for a fictional brand, came from Pro.
