Quality, size and price

Two settings change what GPT Image 2 costs: quality (low, medium or high) and size. The generate row opens on medium quality at 1024×1536, and that is the From price in the table. The edit row opens on high quality, so check the quote whenever you change it. Format (PNG, JPEG or WebP) does not affect the price.

Low quality is the cheapest way to check a layout: where the headline sits, whether the badge crowds the product. Medium was enough for our six listing images at 2048×2048, with the text crisp at full size. Rerun on high only the images that need it, such as a hero banner that will be viewed large.

Pick the size for the placement

The size list is fixed: 1024×1024, 1536×1024, 1024×1536, 2048×2048, 2048×1152, 3840×2160 and 2160×3840. Square 2048×2048 covered every marketplace image slot in our test. 3840×2160 suits a website hero or a landscape display ad, 2160×3840 a vertical story, and 2048×1152 a lighter 16:9 file for a blog header or a video end card.

There is no 4:5 option, the usual feed portrait. Generate at 1024×1536 (2:3) and crop, and leave space at the top and bottom of the composition so the crop does not cut through the headline.

Edit mode keeps the reference’s angle

The edit row takes one or more uploaded images and changes them from a written instruction. In our test it held on to the camera angle of the reference. We asked twice for a straight side profile of a kettle for a dimensions image, once plainly and once as “rotated 90 degrees from image 1, no perspective”, and both times got the reference’s three-quarter view back. The third prompt asked for the reference angle and worked.

So choose the reference for the angle you want. If you need a side profile, photograph or generate the product from the side and use that as image 1. The same behaviour is what kept our set consistent: five edits inherited the main image’s angle, body colour and wordmark position, helped by an identical product lock block at the top of every prompt.

Generate the main image or start from your packshot

Our listing set started from a main image generated from text, because the kettle was fictional. For a product you already sell, put your real packshot in that slot instead and make the secondary images as edits of it. The rule from the test still applies: each edit keeps the camera angle of whatever you upload, so shoot or choose the packshot from the angle you want the whole set to share.

Either way, the main image itself needs a check. Ours came back with a border a few levels short of pure white, so run a white-point fix and our free Amazon main image checker before you upload it.

Masks and other careful edits

A mask limits the edit to one area: the background behind a perfume bottle, the colour of one item in a flat lay, the words on a sign. Everything outside the mask is meant to stay as it was, which makes a masked edit the careful way to change a photo of a real product without the model reworking its label or reflections.

Without a mask, write the edit as what stays and then what changes: “keep the bottle, cap and reflections unchanged; replace only the background with a dusky rose gradient”. Then check the product at full size, because an unmasked edit can still redraw details you did not mention.

How to prompt GPT Image 2 for ads

  1. Put the copy in quotes

    Write the exact text in quotation marks and say where it goes: top-left headline, bottom price tag.

  2. Split titles and sublines

    Write each block as a short title in quotes plus one line underneath. Numbered rows came back in order with matching icons.

  3. Write tables row by row

    One row per line with a pipe between columns, such as “Keep warm”: “60 min” | “No”, gave a correct 5×2 grid in our test.

Why was my GPT Image 2 lingerie image refused?

OpenAI’s own filter is stricter than Blurbly’s rules for on-body lingerie and swimwear. Product-only shots usually pass; for on-model shots switch to Nano Banana Pro.

What sizes can GPT Image 2 make?

1024×1024, 1536×1024, 1024×1536, 2048×2048, 2048×1152, 3840×2160 or 2160×3840.

Can I edit just part of an image?

Yes. Edit mode accepts an optional mask, so only the masked area changes.
